Fortune and Glory

Fortune and Glory: Watch out for those vile Nazis!!

The pulp adventure board game, Fortune and Glory: the Cliffhanger game. Hit the table last Tuesday, at the BAD Gamers.

The very definition of an Ameritrash game. Fortune and Glory doesn’t have much in the way of game mechanics, being more of a dice-rolling game. But it more than made up for this with the story that it told.

In classic pulp adventure style (think Indiana Jones). We had car chases and shootouts in nightclubs. Plus sabotaged plane rides, ancient puzzles to solve, and quicksand to avoid. And not forgetting encounters with vile Nazi spies and troops, who were intent on stopping us.

A great, fun, storytelling game – that’s Fortune and Glory

While a better-written, more concise rule book would have helped. For what Fortune and Glory is, as a game (i.e. a pulp adventure storytelling game), it was great fun. With lots of laughs and highs and lows as we dice Gods both blessed and cursed us in equal measures.

Fortune and Glory was designed and produced by Flying Frog Productions. Which is known for making great Ameritrash narrative-driven games. Rather than the Euro-Style clever rules mechanics games such as Puerto Rico. While Fortune and Glory doesn’t hit the table as much as the BAD Gamers’ favourite Flying Frog Productions game, Last Night on Earth: The Zombie Game. Which gets played at least once a year for Halloween, plus other nights throughout the year. If you are in the mood for playing out a good story, in an almost light-RPG way, then it is recommended.

After all, who doesn’t want to pretend to be Indiana Jones, once in a while?

Next week at the BAD Gamers

Next week sees a return to the Napoleonic Peninsular War with Lt. Blackadder and Sergeant Baldrick taking on the vile Frenchies in a game of Sharp Practice second edition, plus no doubt some more board gaming. All at the BAD Gamers – Tabletop gaming in Brackley.
